Seeing from the skin - moving from the centre, Gesine Daniels

Gesine Daniels

About masterclass: In this intensive the focus will be on connecting a strong and juicy centre with a wide, soft and permeable skin, finding through this connection more ease and confidence in all our CI-dances.
When I dance, clear intention and directed energy, supported by my imagination, radiate out from my centre into and beyond my skin - towards my partner as well as into all directions of the 360° space around me; at the same time I receive with every cell of my listening skin information and inspiration from my partner and from everything that is around me, let it trickle through the different tissues of my body and the filter of my imagination into my centre, where a new impuls forms and radiates out again…
Working solo as well as with a partner you will explore specific movement qualities and anatomical themes, that help you to identify these two major tools for dancing CI(strong centre and open skin) in your body in movement.
During this intensive you will experience and understand how you can connect your skin and centre and learn how to communicate through them with your dance partners and your environment.
This ability will give your dances clarity, lightness and ease and make your dances safe and enjoyable, no matter if you are just leaning into each other very calm and close to the floor or if you are wildly bouncing and flying through space with your partner.
Using this experience as a basis you will practice specific movement patterns, that help you to understand and integrate certain situations and riddles that appear in a contact dance,
i.e. Coming into and out of physical contact, moving underneath and on top, moving and falling into the backward space, being upside down or otherwise disoriented, staying with the rolling point of contact and keeping the connection when loosing physical contact,…This intensive is for students who come with an open mind, the willingness to try new and maybe confusing things, to sweat and to enjoy their learning-process.
As the work we will do in this course will add to your CI practice, no matter if you are just starting or have been practicing CI since many years, people with all levels of experience are welcome.
About Gesine Daniels : I am a choreographer, dance teacher and performer living in Germany and in Wales (UK), dancing, creating and teaching internationally. I have been dancing since I was a child, studying and practicing many forms of dance and movement from Ballet and Gymnastics to New Dance and Contactimprovisation, as well as Improvisation and theatrical approaches to
performance.
Since 1985, CI together with improvisation is my passion, which has a great influence on my teaching and artistic work and does enrich my whole life.
My way of dancing and teaching Dance,Contact improvisation and Performance is energetic, playful and sensitive. Exploring the physics of the human body in movement fascinates me a
lot and the question of “how do we communicate in and through dance?“ is an ongoing exploration for me.
I have been dancing and creating in a wide range of events and places from opera to street performance, solo and group works. As a teacher I have been working in social ghettos and theatre schools, I taught children in primary schools as well as educated dancers;
In 2000, I founded the SomeBodyElse Dance Company, which works with Improvisation and Contact Improvisation in their site-specific dance pieces (www.somebodyelse.de).
